25th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube

Tuesday 26 July 2005 was the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Rubik's Cube. I was lucky enough to be part of the official birthday celebrations - including the birthday party and speedcubing demonstrations at Hamley's Toy Store on Regent Street in London!

A selection of the photos that Peter took are below. To see the rest, check out my Rubik's Cube 25th anniversary page.

Me doing a solve for the radio guy. Unfortunately that 17.70 on the stackmat tournament display was my time for finishing the F2L, not the whole cube. I'm not that fast yet. The solve in this photo ended up being 30.42 seconds.

Nice pictures Yasmine. Looks like it was a lot of fun. And of course you also got to pose for a photo with the legendary Dan Harris as well :p

Hello, Jasmine! I really like your blog. It is good to hear that you will be at the Dutch Open. Will your times count towards the Official Australian Record? It would be good to see that 46.28 seconds lowered!

Hi Gareth,

The Dutch Open is an official WCA tournament so any times set will go towards WCA world records. 46.28 seconds is pretty slow for a national record so I'm definitely aiming to get it down. My current average is ~35 seconds and my best single solve is 22.76 seconds, so I'm reasonably confident of setting a time under 46.28 seconds. :)

Ummm...who cares about the cube, Jasmine, baby, you are beautiful!!! Quit hanging with these cube nerds girl.

That Dan guy looks like he could do a 10 second cube - I could spot the nerd factor a mile away. Dude probably has a serious Star Wars figure collection too. But you...your too sexy to be cubin' it up.

See I got nerd in me too, but I suppress that sh*t in public man.

PS. Could you help me solve my Rubik's cube?

Hi Dolez,

If you are interested in solving your Rubik's Cube, check out my beginner cube solution. I've taught heaps of people to solve using this method.

Good luck with your cube,
Jasmine

I never did manage to solve a rubiks cube by the proper way. I did however found out like many to pull it apart and cheat.

I managed to solve it when I was younger once. I don't think I can do it again.
